Toast Jam Factory, "you toast we jam"!

Heihoo, finally my first post as an medical intern or also known as "dokter muda" or co-ass.. Thanks to cece Elita who forced me to update my blog, hehe.. There are so many great experience since becoming an intern.. Meet a bunch of patients with unique disease, take care of them, help delivering babies, involve in surgeries, do CPR (as in movies minus mouth-to-mouth breathing control =P), meet many great seniors and residents, and so many more.. All of them makes me realize how lucky I am to be a future doctor and keep making me so thankful to God.. Like they said, to become a doctor is such a great privilege.. Thanks, Lord Jesus :)

Okay, let's go to my new culinary experience.. Toast jam factory! A brand new simple cafe with unique concept and white atmosphere.. I went here with my beautiful best friend, Jing2, for a nice saturday night chit chat..

First of all, we had ice teh susu (Rp15.000,00+).. The tea flavor is perfectly match with the milk and created a great blend.. nice taste =D ow ya, they served the milk tea with jars which makes them so cute >.<

Next is chocolate and cheese toast (Rp15.000,00+).. There are two size of toast served here.. medium and large one.. The medium one only consist of one slice of bread while the large one are two.. And yeah, we ordered the large one =D

I think they use the nutella spread which make it tasty =) The bread is also so soft..

Next is kaya origininal toast (RP12.000,00+).. Unfortunately, there is no thing so special with this one.. I prefer yakun kaya toast or my hometown homemade kaya spread more than this..

 Last but not least, ham and cheese salad (Rp15.000,00+).. They served the ham and cheese not in great proportion with the vegetables =( hmm, and less seasoning too =|

Homemade Baking and Cooking

My bloooogg, I miss you so bad.. First I wanna say, Merry Christmas 2011 and Happy New Year 2012 because actually this is my first post in 2012 =D Finally semester 7 selesai sudah, yang juga berarti selesailah masa pre-klinik >.< waa, lumayan ga nyangka sudah berjalan sejauh ini.. bentar lagi masuk dunia baru, masuk klinik, jadi co-ass.. aah, tapi semoga hobi wisata kuliner masih bisa dijalankan.. hihihihi >:)

Isi blog kali ini bukan review tentang resto-resto tapi homemade baking and cooking.. Vitia masak?!?!?! Yaa,  gak usah kaget begitu.. Saya juga lumayan senang buat makanan, walaupun tetap lebih senang melahap makanan. Hohohoo.. =D Pagi ini aku sama sepupuku, Ivonny, yang sudah expert dalam hal baking dan masak-memasak berkutat di dapur buat bikin macaroons.. nyaamm.. sebelumnya sih Ivonny sudah pernah buat macaroons.. waktu itu isinya coklat.. rasanya? so yummy >.< Hari ini kita mau buat yang filling oreo.. Does it sound good? =)

Sebelum cerita lebih jauh lagi tentang baking hari ini, I wanna proof you that my cousin really has talent in baking, cooking, and anything else in making food. She made a Blueberry Cheese Cake with Strawberry Topping last Christmas which tastes so delicious.. Base-nya pake regal biscuit crumble to substitute Graham cracker. Cheese-nya so soft and light. Manisnya pas ga kayak yang dijual di bakery-bakery. Okay, I must admit I love cheese cake now <3 haha.. okay, no explanation anymore, I think the picture tells a lot already.. =D

Bicara soal Christmas celebration tahun lalu, jadi pengen masukin juga karyanya sepupuku, Cece Junita, yang buat Seven Layers Salad.. But there are ten layers actually.. hehe.. Isinya ada paprika merah, paprika kuning, selada, bawang bombay, seledri, mixed vegetables, mayonnaise, grated cheese, bacon!! (the best of all =P), sama cherry tomato..

Okay, sudah terlalu jauh, back to macaroon.. hehe.. Mungkin masih banyak yang belum tahu apa itu macaroon. Well, maybe wikipedia can describe macaroon better than me (obviously because I will explain about the taste not the definition, hehe). Kalo boleh ngutip dari Wikipedia, "A macaroon is a type of lighy, baked confection, described as either small cakes or meringue-like cookies depending on their consitency. The original macaroon was a "small sweet cake consisting largely of ground almonds" similar to Italian or Moroccan amaretti."

Yah, mungkin masih membingungkan. Secara singkat macaroon dibuat dari putih telur yang diaduk sampai mengembang terus dicampur pake icing sugar, caster sugar, and the most important bubuk almond which makes it so delicious >.< adonannya terus dimasukin ke spuit kue buat disemprot di atas loyang yang udah dilapisin kertas kue.. habis ditunggu beberapa lama, dipanggang dalam oven kurang lebih 12 menit, and voilaa.. the shell of macaroons =)


Eitss, belom selesai.. Macaroons-nya harus diisi pake filling.. Kali ini aku sama Ivonny pengen bikin filling oreo.. Jadi butter di-beat pake oreo crumble sama sugar and vanilla essence.. Filling disemprot di atas satu shell, trus ngambil satu shell lagi buat ditangkupin di atasnya.. just like a burger.. and this is it, Oreo Macaroons..




To complete your knowledge about macaroon, I will tell you some criteria of a "success" macaroon.. Pertama, cangkangnya mulus dan tidak retak. Kedua, permukaan cangkangnya harus light and thin. Ketiga, bagian dalam cangkangnya harus soft, chewy, light, and airy.. Keempat, cangkangnya punya kaki. Kaki? Yapp, just see the layer yang tepat mengapit filling.. Kelima, fillingnya tepat memenuhi semua bagian cangkang. Considering all of those criteria, can I say that we succeed? Hohoho.. Maunya sih begitu =P

So how about the taste?? Well, permukaan shell-nya macaroons ini cukup crunchy jadi kalo digigit bakal cracked tapi dalamnya soft.. aroma almondnya kuat banget, jadinya wangi and yummy banget. Filling-nya? So yum-yum too.. Salty butter-nya bikin rasanya gurih dan ngimbangi manisnya oreo.. Perpaduannya, m-a-n-t-a-p.. okeh, semoga saya tidak lebay berhubung ini buatan sendiri.. hehehe.. let's check what is Jing2's comment because I will give her some tonight and I will force her to write down here.. wakakak..

Ngomong2 soal baking, jadi inget dulu juga pernah baking Cinnamon Carrot Cake with Walnut sama Cece Elita. This is the western carrot cake, not like the one I told you before in my previous post about Singapore. Maybe juga masih kedengaran aneh buat beberapa orang, cake dari wortel. One of my best friend malah masih trauma dengan "wortel" gara-gara menu diet 13 hari pake wortel rebus sampai-sampai agak merengut waktu nyobain. But personally, saya cinta carrot cake.. Aroma cinnamon-nya kuat, irisan walnutnya gives a great texture combination, and the carrot is not as scary as in "Diet 13 Hari". They are delicious!! How about you, what do you think?





O ya, a cake totally need decoration.. dan yang terlintas untuk menghias carrot cake? Wortel dan walnut.. Maafkan kekanak-kanakan saya =P





Ada satu lagi yang pengen dipajang di sini. Tiramisu by Vitia and Jing2.. We made it sekitar liburan yang lalu (udah lama juga ya.. hmm) Isinya dari biskuit lady fingers yang dicelupin di kopi trus di-layer pake campuran whipped cream, mascarpone, and egg yolk. Sweet and yummy <3



Okee, selesai sudah parade homemade baking and cooking.. Berhubung udah masuk liburan, saya bakal lebih rajin ngepost.. Yeay.. C u in the next post =D
